P.M. Promises Relief (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 12. Opotiki has been declared an emergency area. The Napier and Hamilton district offices of the Ministry of Works are mobilising all available forces of machinery and labour to rush urgent relief to the flood area. This was stated by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) early this afternoon. Mr Holyoake said he had received an urgent message from the Mayor of Opotiki (Mr Chatfield) requesting all available Government assistance. Mr Holyoake < said the Health Department had been instructed to give what help it can in the event that damage to water and sewerage services may endanger public health. Mr Holyoake said the people of this stricken district could rest assured that all possible aid and relief action is being taken on an urgent emergency basis.
