Air Commodore C. A Tux-ner, who for the last two years has been air officer commanding R.N.Z.A.F Headquarters. London, has returned to New Zealand to take up the appointment of Air Member for Supply, which was announced earlier —(P.A.) Major-General A, M, W. Whistler, assistant-chief of the British Defence Staff (Signals), and Group Captain P. M. Hedgeland will arrive in Wellington on Saturday for talks with the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) and members of the Joint Communications Board. —P.A.

Dr. D. I. Chisholm has taken up his duties as director of anaesthesia to the North Canterbury Hospital Board. He was formerly assistant director of anaesthesia to the Otago Hospital Board. The assistant secretary of the British Board of Trade (Mr P. W. Ridley) will meet members of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Mr Ridley is responsible for Commonwealth trade problems.

Chimney Fire.—A chimney fire in the Central Hotel, on the corner of Lichfield and Colombo streets, yesterday morning caused no damage. Headquarters station firemen answered the alarm at 8.48 a.m.
