Have you ever stopped to think of the importance of the electrician in the community?
Not only th® man who come® to your home to instal the point for the new washing machine, or repair the electric cooker. He of course is important enough when some appliance has ceased to function or you are waiting
for the wiring to be completed in your new home, but consider for a moment what the electrician means to industry. Almost all Industrial machines are powered by electricity. Many have intricate timing and control devices which automatically keep the machine turning out a standard product accurately dimensioned and shaped to fine tolerances. The electrical equipment for industry must be installed and serviced by men who fully understand the complex working of the electrical “brains” which guide the machines’ working, or costly
) delays will keep a machine 1 idle when a fault develops. Have you ever thought that : the newspaper you are read- - ing must be printed on time, > whatever electrical fault may > occur in the complex mach- > inery of the giant presses? The electrical equipment in the hospital theatre must function smoothly and efficiently if the operation is to be successful; the picture theatre, television and radio studios, the electrical equipment in your motor-car, or in the aeroplane you may fly in, all need the services of skilled men to whom electricity is the chosen field. Behind all this utilisation of electrical energy, spare a thought for the men of the New Zealand Electricity Department, who instal and service the primary supply; their test technicians, who . with their instruments make t sure the equipment will t function reliably and safely.
the supply authority staff who must instal, service, test and maintain their equipment if a reliable supply is to be enjoyed. In times of storm think of the men who are battling with the elements in an effort to restore the power so necessary to our comfort and well being. The electrical industry is one of the most progressive and expanding industries of our time. There are few fields of human endeavour in which it is not represented, and more and more highly qualified men will be needed in the future. The New Zealand Institute of Electricians is dedicated to helping the electrical workers become an efficient and knowledgeable tradesman in whichever branch of the industry he is employed. There is a local branch in your home town or district, with a class of membership open to ail electrical workers.
