West Eyreton Farm Sold For £50,026

“Te Mara,” Mr Robert Chapman’s freehold farm of 625 acres one rood 12 perches at North Eyre road, West Eyreton, was sold for £50,026 at public auction yesterday. More than 60 persons attended the sale, which was conducted by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd. There was an immediate response when the auctioneer, Mr G. B. McCredie, called for an opening bid of £7O an acre. After 10 £1 bids the farm was sold to the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., as agents. The property, which is subdivided into 20 paddocks, is all flat. It is part of the original “Springbank” station known as Run 3, which was purchased by the present owner’s grandfather, Mr Robert Chapman, in 1853. Three Houses Sold A house on a section of a quarter of an acre at 35 Mansfield avenue, Papanui, was sold for £3150 at public auction yesterday. The auctioneer was Mr Ray Simes. The house has two bedrooms, sunroom, lounge, breakfast room, kitchenette, and bathroom. Outbuildings include a laundry, woodshed, and garage. A stone-block bungalow, about 18 months old, at 46 Yarmouth street, Wainoni, was sold for £2870. The auctioneer was Mr A. E. Barrell. Built on a section of 27 perches, the house has three bedrooms, living room, dining alcove, and kitchen. It was a mortgagee’s sale. A brick bungalow at 120 The Esplanade, Sumner, has been sold by private treaty by Ford and Hadfield, Ltd. The property was passed in at £3BOO when offered at auction recently.
