BASKETBALL N.Z.—Queensland Match To Be Played In Chch.

A men’s basketball match between Queensland and New Zealand has been tentatively allocated to Christchurch on Friday, June 12. The Canterbury association’s management committee accepted the offer last evening and although it still has to have the final approval of the national council, it is almost certain that the match will be staged at the Cowles Stadium. The fixture in Christchurch will be the second of two representative games. The first will be held at Palmerston North on June 6. A match against a New Zealand colts side has also been arranged. According to the secretary of the New Zealand Men’s Basketball Association (Mr D. Edwards), the Australians will begin their New Zealand tour on June 1 with a match against Auckland at Auckland. It will play nine games in 12 days and will leave for Melbourne on June 13. The tentative itinerary is: June 1, v. Auckland at Auckland: June 2. v. A letter was received from the Otago association signifying its agreement to an annual representative fixture between the two provinces. The first will be held at Dunedin on May 9. In future, no time-outs will be allowed in the last five minutes of inter-club matches under the jurisdiction of the Canterbury association. The object was to prevent teams frdm playing for time as the clock was not stopped in those matches, the president (Mr R. Thomson) explained. The secretary (Mr A. W. Barrett) reported that six late entries had been received for the Inter-elub competitions, making a total of 60 teams—an increase of 12 on last season. The late entries were approved and the selection of teams into grades referred to the competitions committee.

The following were elected to the competitions committee: Messrs R S. Thomson (president). M. A. McDougall, S. Hackwell, C. W. Anderson Mr J. I. Fogel berg was appointed convener of the working committee.
