SMART TRIAL
Ichtar Fit For Classic "Tue Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, March 12. Awapuni stables win be represented by a powerful trio in Bandon. Ichtar and Gymkhana at Trentham on Saturdav and all three pleased in their final trials today. The field tor the New Zealand St. Lexer S akes has been weakened by scratchings and Ichtar’s chance of winning now looks bright He worked solidly this morning without a great deal of effort and his trial suggested that he has der ved considerable benefit from his race in the Thompson Handicap. On the course proper Ichtar drew away to beat very Dry decisively at the end or half a mile in Msec the last three furlongs in 41sec. Ichtar loafed once he left his companion but ft was a good trial. Very Dry is unlikely to run at Hastings If the going is soft. Gymkhana ran veryeasily in his work today. R. W. Taylor had him under restraint and he took Imin 9 4-teec tor five furlongs, the last three in 40 1-5 sec. He went fast only over the last furlong. Gymkhana looks well and should be hard to beat In the Hutt Handicap. Bandon again impressed when he ran seven furlongs in Imin Msec. He was joined by Bright Dale at the six furlongs and they ran in from there in imin 22 3-Saec, the last three in eisec. Bandon was a length in front at the end and workpg strongly.
