MOTZ SAVES THE DAY

Good Knock At Napier

(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, February 17. Only a fine innings by R. C. Motz (52 not out) saved the New Zealand team from being ignominiously bundled out for a. low score in their first innings in the “warmup” match against Central Districts at McLean Park, Napier, today. The side looked in real danger of a collapse when Motz joined S. McGregor at the wicket with the score at seven for 188. But between them the two staved off the imminent collapse and at stumps New Zealand were eight down for 268. McGregor was caught behind for a handy 30. Motz’s innings was a little chancy but he saved the New Zealand team from an embarrassingly low total.
