i TEUVIMON Something to really STOP and THINK about SHIELS CREDIT CLUB SHIELS CREDIT CLUB Millions of people buy television sets or appliances on hire purchase. Under the present financial system, it is impossible to buy a television set on two year's terms at an interest cost of less than £25 to £3O, in addition to the cost of the set. We are now introducing a credit club to operate in addition to our ordinary Hire Purchase trading. In the past, we have already given exclusively good interest rebates to prompt-paying customers, but here is a radically new system. Shiel's Credit Club will issue passbooks for lay-by deposits on television, radios, stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, sewing machines, polishers, heaters, and all other Home Appliances, and will pay 6 per cent interest on these deposits. These lay-by funds can be used for any TV receiver or appliance to be chosen at a later date. The very widest possible scope and choice will be available when required. The interest will be added to the account at i per cent for each calendar month. When a Credit Club Customer has £2O in his account, plus 6 per cent interest accumulating to date of his purchase, he can then take out a television set or appliance at an interest rate of 6 per cent—not 10 per cent—thus saving at least £lO on his deal. When he has £4O in his account, he can get the set or appliance on 5 per cent interest, not 10 per cent. He now saves at least £l2 on his deal of say, £l5O. When he has £6O in his account, he can get the set or appliance at 4 per cent interest (not 10 per cent) thus saving £l5 or more on his deal. Prompt payment is the basis of this interest rate, and should have a wide appeal to the prudent customer, to the customer who already has good funds in the Bank, to the parents and advisors of young people, and to dubs and societies which have long advocated a safer financial system for the family man's budget. This is a sincere attempt on our part to produce a very big saving on any family budget by the sensible system of thrift and cheaper instalment credit as a result. If the public wait on the Government to alter the present financial system for hire purchase, it may be a very long wait, or it may be impossible for the Government to do anything. Therefore, we have made the move, and it is up to yourself to help yourself. The first fifty people who take out a passbook on a £2 lay-by under this scheme will receive a £2 gift added outright to the passbook to celebrate and publicise the opening of the club. The £2 gift for fifty people cannot be repeated, is limited to one per family, and foundation members will be invited to a function to celebrate the Club's opening. We hope not only for a public response, but for public enthusiasm. We honestly believe the scheme to be the best yet put forward by a retail shop to help the family man, and thereby help its own business. In Christchurch, we have 5000 customers to testify to the past fairness of our trading, and we rely on this goodwill to make this club an overwhelming success.
