Cycling AMATEUR TITLES CONTINUE

Skilling Lucky To Gain Decision The Canterbury amateur championships were taken a stage further on Thursday night and Saturday morning. On Thursday night the senior and junior 1000 metres times trials ware decided with D. Gutry (Christchurch) taking the senior title and J. Cleary (Papanui) the junior. On Saturday morning the senior and junior 500 metre sprints were through to the semi-finals, the finals of which will be decided next Wednesday night. P. Skilling (Papanui), who will compete in the junior final against A 'Leppens (Christchurch) must consider himself a little lucky for in the quarterfinal against P. Wlldermoth (Avon) he was beaten,, but a re-run was ordered on account of shouldering and leaning on each other before the 220 yard mark. .In the re-run Skilley made a glaring switch onto Wlldermoth after the 220 yards mark, but this was allowed to. pass and Skilling gained the decision. In the senior section D. Gutry (Christchurch) and R. Mann (Papanui) performed well in all their sprints and these two will now contest the final.
