British newspapers today welcomed Australia’s touring cricket side in headlines ranging from jubilation to cautions optimism for England’s chances in the coming series. Most agreed England had very good prospects of winning the Ashes. Headlines included: “We Can Tan the Pants off This Lot” (“Daily Mirror”) and “England Need not-Fear Australian Tourists” (“Daily Telegraph”) .
