TROTTING Glenurquhart Picked For Addington Sprint
If Glenurquhart adds another victory to his record at Addington this evening the Final Handicap will have ended the way many expected.
Glenurquhart, which will be trying for his fifth win in succession, is bound to be the popular fancy for this sprint race at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s autumn meeting.
Mr P. A. Watson's Meadow Chief gelding has proved himself a good all-rounder. He can sprint and he can stay. But what is probably more important still is the impression he has given each time he has won that, had it been required, he could have done better. Solemn and Devolve are two of Glenurquhart’s more notatle rivals to drop out of the field. But G. Cameron, who trains
Solemn, will still have two 1 well-performed runners to 1 represent his stable. They are I Maggie Spangler and 1 Thunderbolt, which will both 1 be trying to improve on some 1 useful place form at the Dunedin Festival Cup meeting. Peerswick will be another ; strong fancy. He suffered his : first lapse in a solid patch of i form in the Visitors' Handi- : cap on the final night at For- i bury Park. Before that he had finished second to Balcairn in the Forbiiry Three-year-old Stakes and had won the O. J. Watson Challenge Stakes at Hororata. Useful Pair Sirretta and Morsel will be a useful pair to represent F. E, Newfield’s stable. The former is one of the last-start winners in the field. She led
from end-to-end to gain Marlborough Cup honours last Saturday. Morsel’s recent form has not been as good, but her best as a sprinter is better than average. There will also be solid backing for Mountain Song, an impressive last-start sprint winner at Washdyke. Others with sound form close up on their records include Lord Mina, Overnight and Storm Water. This evening’s double will be on the New Brighton Cup and the Autumn Handicap. Orbiter, . Great Credit and Gay Robin are a fancied trio for the first leg. Among the trotters in the second leg, Rebel, Chesterfield and Our Jimmy are expected to do best. The forecast is for continued fine weather so the track will be firm and fast.
