Minor Fires
Two grass fires and a rubbish fire were attended by the Christchurch Fire Brigade yesterday. There was no damage. At 11.45 a.m. the brigade answered a call to the Air Force station at Weedons. It was attended by a unit from Sockburn and one from Sydenham. At 12.35 p.m. a call was received to Faraday street, where there was i grass fire on property owned by William Fuchs. One unit from Sydenham answered the call. The rubbish fire was at the Islington railway yard at 1.25 p.m. and was attended by a unit from Sockburn. At 12.25 p.m. the brigade answered a call to the timber yard of H. P. Piesse, Ltd., Papanui road. There was a small fire in one of the starter motors which caused slight damage to the motor. A unit from Headquarters and one from St. Albans attended the fire.
Motor-cyclist Injured.—Gordon Matthews, of 302 Breezes road, was slightly injured when his motor-cycle and a car collided in Oxford terrace near Montreal street at 4.55 p.m. yesterday. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for minor leg injuries and discharged.
