(New Zealand Press Association)
PALMERSTON NORTH, February 14. Three R.A.F. Victor bombers arrived at Ohakea today to take part in Air Force Day bn Saturday, February 22. They had flown from the R.A.A.F. base at Amberley. Australia. Each plane used its parachute brake on landing and stopped in less than half the length of the runway. The New Zealand Chief of Air Staff (Air Vice Marshall I. J. Morrison) was at Ohakea to welcome Air Vice Marshall
B. K. Burnett, air officer commanding No. 3 Group, Bomber Command, who was in the leading Victor. Before the Victors landed, R.N.Z.A.F. Vampires from No. .75 Squadron put on a thrilling 15-minute aerobatic display. As a grand finale, the Vampires crossed each other only 100 ft above tarmac. Their closing speed for this manoeuvre was estimated to be 800 miles an hour. A Canberra then gave a display.
