TERRORISING RESIDENTS
Wild Cattle On Island (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 14. Wild cattle from a neglected property are terrorising residents near Tryphena, on Great Barrier Island. Mrs W. Frieswijk, whose husband conducts a farm on the island, said today that her seven-year-old daughter, Theodora and she had been attacked several times in the last few days. “We have had to run for our lives to escape injury,” she said. Mrs Frieswijk has refused to allow Theodora to walk the half-mile to school because of the bulls and the school authorities have now agreed to bring the school bus to within 50 yards: of their house. She said between 50 and 100 head of cattle had been running wild since 1959 and only a few had been shot or cleared by police or rangers. A fresh appeal, is being made to the police.
