Salesgirl Daughter Of Millionaire

A salesgirl in an American shoe store might be a millionaire’s daughter. This was the job of Miss Joanne Field until her millionaire publisher father persuaded her to enter the newspaper world last year.

Miss Field is now editorial assistant for the Chicago “Daily News” weekend Panorama supplement on arts, theatre, books, and general topics.

“My main job is to put out the television news book but my ambition is to write articles for the magazine,” said Miss Field in Christchurch yesterday. Miss Field is travelling with her father, family friends, and Sir Edmund Hillary. Mr Field is president of Field Enterprises, the company which sponsored Sir Edmund Hillary’s 1961 expedition They have visited Auckland, Lake Taupo, Wellington, Mount Cook, and now Christchurch. “We are always on our way to do something, like fishing, and we see the points of interest on our way,” said Miss Field. “I would rather discover things for myself than have them pointed out by a guide. I love to see the country this way.” Miss Field is a fishing enthusiast and has been pleased to do some salmon fishing during her visit. “I have always loved fishing, especially deep sea fishing. My brother is a great angler and I sometimes go out with him but I prefer deep sea fishing.” she said. Miss Field has been to Europe and has spent three months at university in Lausanne, learning French. “But it is hard to find people to converse with in French at home,” she said. She has graduated from junior college, a two year extension of high school studies for pupils aged 18 and 20.

Miss Field recently turned 21 and her father gave her an Italian sports car. “It is what I have always wanted and on the morning of my

birthday I was waiting at the door of the car store.” Miss Field shares an apartment with a friend in a new building "I like cooking
