ARBELLE FIT
Fast Gallop At Trentham
"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, February 13. Arbelle is now one of the favourites for the Mangatapu Handicap on Saturday at Bulls. At Trentham today she galloped better than she has ever done. With Commodore Roberts in the cup, Trentham has a good chance of taking the T.A.B. double at the Rangitikei meeting. Commodore Roberts was another to work well today. The outside of the trial grass was used for gallopihg. It provided good footing, the sprinklers used on the course proper having extended to the trial. Carrying almost 9-0, Arbelle (Wylie) began . brilliantly before the half-mile. She Was at top from the four furlongs, but was being eased near the finish, where she was still, keen to go. Her time, 47 l-ssec, and 35 l-ssec for the last three furlongs was outstanding, but even more impressive was the way she. did it. , . Last month Arbelle was offcolour, but she appears to have recovered completely. With 7-9 on Saturday she should have an outstanding chance in the second leg, in which she will be ridden by the former Australian, B. Patching. Commodore Roberts (Ford), carrying a light weight, started from the mile and three furlongs. He. came from the mile in Imin Slsec and from the seven furlongs in Imin 35sec. but he had most pace on over the last Half-mile in 51sec, the three furlongs in 37sec. He is in robust condition.
