Stay-At-Home Best At Work

Two’s company and three’s a crowd. That was found once again when the Riccarton ownertrainer, Miss J. EdgarJones was faced with the problem this week of sending three of her horses to Westport when there were float spaces for only two. So Llansfair and Donna Gola made the trip, and Mygrid was left behind. Yesterday Mygrid provided one of precious few features of the limited training by sprinting half a mile on the plough in 47 4-ssec. She was ridden by the lightweight apprentice, P. Daly.

D. N. Hadfield was engaged to ride Mygrid at West-

port but it seems he will have to look elsewhere unless late plans are made to take her to Westport alone. The next best time for half a mile was 49 2-ssec, recorded by Seaend with Miss F. Kerr up. Begame (Mein) was going well with a slight lead over Candida (Hadfield) and Valuate (N. Eastwood) after running seven furlongs in Imin 30 3-ssec, the last four in 50 3-ssec, and the final three in 38 l-ssec.

The Dunedin-owned Begame is being prepared for a campaign at Wingatui and will have a strong southern following after a good third to Apache and General Gilbert at the C.J.C. summer meeting. Hullabaloo (A. H. Eastwood) led Scuffle (C. T. Wilson) by three-quarters of a length after running six furlongs in Imin 21 4-ssec, the first three briskly in 37sec. R. Preece will take Hullabaloo south for the Dunedin meeting. Bagful and Misjudge are also likely to make the trip. Beau Seant (Stokes) and Town. Talk . (Campbell)

Sprinted six furlongs tn Imin 21 4-ssec, the final three in 38sec. Naitavia proved a handful for the lightweight P. Daly when sent out to do two rounds of pace work. She shot away to sprint three furlongs in 36 l-ssec on the first circuit. G. S. Barr has given Natavia plenty of time in the hope that she would grow. She was put aside last autumn and has not raced since.
