Encyclopedia Planned An international encyclopedia, with two out’ of 14 volumes devoted entirely to New Zealand, Australia and South-east Asian interest, would be launched cn the New Zealand market on January 1. 1966, said an American, Mr D. McKellar, in Christchurch yesterday. Mr McKellar is executive vice-president of the Field Enterprises Educational Corporation. Mr McKellar is visiting Christchurch witih the president and publisher of the corporation (Mr Marshall Field) who is also president and publisher of the Chicago “Sun-Times” and the Chicago “Daily News,” and with Sir Edmund Hillary. The Australian and New Zealand edition of the encyclopedia, with 9000 pages, would be published in Sydney but printing would be done in the United States.
All of the articles pertaining to New Zealand would be written and authenticated by leading New Zealand educationists. “We think interests in this part of the world in future would take South-east Asia into consideration,” he said. “We think Australia and New Zealand will be the economic and cultural hub of this community. So we hope to help students to know the history of the area to the north and north-east of New Zealand.”
