TRADE WITH JAPAN
Other Nations Just As Keen (N.Z. Press Association) ■ DUNEDIN, February 13. Japan must be regarded as one of New Zealand’s most promising markets, Mr J. L. Fenaughty, who has recently been appointed trade commissioner and commercial counsellor in Tokyo, said ih Dunedin today. “We must strengthen, improve, and develop our trad.e with Japan,” he sajd. “Our trade has made some healthy jumps over the last few years, but in relation to our total export earnings the amount is not high. Mr Fenaughty, who held the position of trade commissioner .and consul at New York until his latest appointment, considers his new job as a challenge. “Japan is an area where there is great promise for trade, but we cannot ' afford to sit back and. take .it easy.” Other countries, including Australia, were- just as keen to develop markets, and New Zealand had strong competition to contend with. Mr Fenaughty is making a short tour of New Zealand before taking up his appointment in Japan.
