I GIVE UP”
Australia’s biggest Punter, Perce Galea, has decided to take. the advice of his trainer, Cecil Rolls, and give up his mammoth betting sprees, according to the sporting editor of “The Sun,” Sydney. Rolls, who has been training horses for more than 25 years and has had vast experience with bookmakers, says that the bookmakers are not giving his client value for his investments, which means he has little chance of winning. “Twelve months ago when the bookmakers were more liberal and Galea was not such a
colourful figure he got good odds,” said Rolls. “In four wins he collected £106,000, but I think he has given that all back to the bookmakers.” Galea’s decision to quit the betting was made after he had lost £ll,OOO on his own horse, Indian Prince, at Rosehill last Saturday. That bet was made against the advice of his trainer and jockey, Athol Mulley, who both considered the colt not well enough weighted to. win. Last Saturday’s “slamming” was only one of several Galea has taken from the bookmakers at recent ■ meetings.
