NO POLICE AT LITTLE RIVER
Constable Moved To Islington
The Little River Police Station has been closed. Constable J. Boyd, the last in? cumbent of the sole-charge station, has been transferred to Islington. The officer-in-charge of the Christchurch police district (Superintendent G. C. Urquhart) said yesterday that because of population shifts, fewer and fewer calls had been made on the Little River police over recent years.
Responsibility for the area would now be divided among ' the Akaroa, Lincoln and Lyttelton police. Wi Ji the building up of the Hornby, Sockburn, and Islington suburban area, more and more calls were being made on the police in that district. There would .now be two constables stationed permanently at Islington, Mr Urquhart said. The Police Department has plans for building a new police station in the Islington area and has earmarked a site near Shands road. A sergeant and five or six constables will police the district under a long-term plan.
