HOSPITALITY SCHEME
Register Of Hosts Suggested
The hospitality shown by Christchurch residents to groups of American journalists who had visited the city had also shown the value of a permanent register of hosts who could give tourists and visitors a proper welcome to the city, said the DeputyMayoi- (Cr. H. P. Smith). Such a register could list the names of people of all occupations and interests and the tourist could make his choice of host with similar interests, Cr. Smith said. He thanked those who had offered help in entertaining the American journalists this week, and said there had not been enough visitors to go round the number of Christchurch residents wanting to show hospitality. The success of the scheme of inviting unofficial hosts opened up interesting possibilities of creating valuable public relations at no public cost, he said. The idea of a permanent register could be developed quickly.
