Defeat Narrowly Averted
Ashburton A narrowly avoided defeat when it played Canterbury A in a boys’ cricket matoi at the Christ's College grounds. Canterbury was live runs short of the Ashburton total for the loss of six wickets at the close. Details:— Ashburton A 168 (Bell 33, Sutherland 40. Winghani 34: McKenzie three for 30. Bhana two for 13) drew with Canterbury A. 164 for six wickets (O’Sullivan 25. Penney 26 Blight 70: Wingham two (or 15, Lucas two for none Dauvergne two for 21).
A nine-year-old Australian boy who is at present on holiday with his grandparents suffered head and back injuries when his cycle and a car collided in Bexley at 4.12 p.m. on Thursday. He is Gary Welsh, who has been staying with his grandparents in Hardy street. New Brighton. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition is satisfactory.
