Earl Of Foxwood Has Fine Chance

AUCKLAND, January 24. The Avondale gelding Earl of Foxwood has a fine chance to win his second middle distance handicap from his ’ last two starts in the £2525 Anniversary Cup at Ellerslie tomorrow. His task will not be too easy. He is opposed by some fairly useful stayers. The most notable among the field of 10 are Feiacita, Nett Price Arakhan and Jim’s Count. Gitano and Damian’s Pride are decidedly useful which makes the issue even the more open. At his last start Earl of Foxwood came to light with a narrow, but decisive victory in the John Wells Handicap, 11 furlongs, at Avondale last Saturday. The Anniversary Cup is also over 11 furlongs which he seems to manage very well indeed.

The Anniversary Cup is the first leg of the T.A.B. double. The second leg, the Zealandia Handicap, has drawn a fairly strong field of sprinteres. Fencourt. a three-year-old from Te Aroha, looks by far the best prospect. His latest form has been very good and in much better class than he meets today.
