The Dwellings Of Ancient Egypt. By Helen and Richard Leacroft. Rockhampton Press. 40 pp. Illustrated. Index. In this small book Egypt is presented in pictures that reveal and teach, and by interesting comment. Mrs Leacroft writes the notes, Mr Leacroft is responsible for the illustrations. Buildings, tombs, houses, are profusely illustrated. The actual building was done by manpower—there were, of course, no cranes or mechanical equipment. The pictures and story of daily worship are illuminating, while funerals are vividly described and illustrated. The ordinary houses of the people are depicted from earliest times to the present. This is attractive work and gives a splendid picture of an ancient land. Several generations have profited from the prodigious amount of information contained in Pears Cyclopaedia. A new (72nd) edition is available for present-day readers This will win new friends for “Pears,” and maiy old friends will be happy to renew acquaintance with a book that invites hours of entertaining browsing thruogh the mass of facts within its covers.
