PANNING FOR GOLD
Holiday Sport At Greymouth (From Our Own Reporter). GREYMOUTH, Jan. 14. Several visitors to Greymouth during the Christmas holiday period have shown much interest in panning for gold. A member of the Westland District Progress League Council, Mr W. A. Harris, said today that several visitors had approached him during the holidays for information concerning available gold claims where they could pan and he had directed them. Mr Harris was instrumental in a Progress League decision to draw up a list of such claims for publication late last year. “A number of people approached me. They evidently heard about the scheme by word of mouth and I was able to help them,” he said. Mr Harris said that the gold-panning scheme had great possibilities as a tourist attraction. It appeared, on the strength of patronage during the current holiday period, that it was favoured by visitors.
