Repairing China
Sir, —From time to time we have made inquiries locally about the possibility of getting china and glassware mended; but without much success. Then, in the pages of a sec-ond-hand book, we came across a piece of notepaper containing household hints compiled evidently by some conscientious housewife a longish time ago. Here we found: “Take a very thick solution of gum arable and stir into plaster of Paris. Apply mixture with a brush to the fractured edges of the chinaware and stick them together.” We have tried it on a couple of plates and it seems to work extremely well. For the preservation of the complexion our same informant suggests: “It is a good thing to wash your face with gin two or three times a week, and leave it on all night.” Those were the days! —Yours, etc., M.T.
