NOTICE TO BOARD

Special Meeting On Wages Fourteen days’ notice of its intention to cease all routine duties was given by the Christchurch Firemen's Union in a telegram to the chairman of the Christchurch Fire Board (Mr W. R. Campbell) yesterday. The union said routine duties would be stopped in support of a national watchroom system and that it was carrying out a Fire Brigade Union’s Federation executive decision. Mr Campbell said the board had no knowledge of the matter. It would hold a special meeting early next week to discuss adjustments to firemen’s wages if the threatened action took place. The board had decided that a special meeting should be called to adjust wages whenever there was a strike. Mr G. G. Walker, secretary of the union, said he had no comment on the telegram, but added that union officials would see Mr Campbell today. Instructions were issued by the national secretary (Mr T. Hill) on Monday that seven major brigades should stop all but essential work in support of the Auckland firemen.
