Air Pollution
Sir, —In New Zealand there were 500 deaths from lung cancer last year. On the present information Unking these with smoking cigarettes, which is a preventable personal habit, this appears a psychological problem no less than a medical and public one. “Smoke”—of all kinds—is recognised abroad as a direct contributing cause of heart and lung disease. One can but be perturbed at the neglect of New Zealand cities to clean up “smoke." The infliction of bronchitis and constant eye and nose irritation upon those forced to live in an environment by acrid smoke is a reproach; to this city.—Yours, etc.. DOES HEALTH COUNT?
