BOY OF 9 RESCUED
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Doc. 16.
A nine-year-old Mangere Bridge boy, John Davies, after unsuccessfully trying to launch a boat from the Mangere shore yesterday to cross the Manukau harbour to Onehunga, walked out into the mudflats with the intention of swimming. A resident, who saw the boy in trouble, called the police, and Co; stable M. E. Kwan waded in up to his shoulders to save him. The constable said today the boy luckily knew how to tread water and had not reached the shipping channel where there was a strong flow. The boy was given a bath before being taken home.
