CHAMBER MUSIC
1964 Touring
Artists
The most unusual touring 'artists to give a concert for the Christchurch Chamber Music Society in 1964 will be the Deller Consort, which was formed in 1948 to give authentic performances of English madrigals and vocal music of the Renaissance and baroque periods. It is led by Alfred Deller, the famous British countertenor, whose emergence as a
front-rank singer has stimulated a revival of interest in the male alto voice and its music. Another singer who is to tour for the Federation of Chamber Music Societies next year is the great French baritone, Gerard Souzay, making a second visit, but he will not appear in Christchurch. Others who will appear in Christchurch are the Vlach Quartet from Czechoslovakia; the Hungarian Quartet, which will give two concerts; the Trio di Trieste, one of the world’s most famous trios: and the New Zealand Wind Quintet
