CHATHAMS VISIT
Welcome For Governor
(N.Z. Press Association) CHATHAM ISLANDS, December 16.
The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) and Lady Fergusson arrived at Te Whanga lagoon just after noon today in an R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland on an official visit to the island.
They were taken to Waitangi where a welcome wan given and a loyal address was presented by Mr D Holmes. Addresses of welcome were also presented by the Resident Commissioner, Mr Donald Reid, and by Mr Sigley Kamo, on behalf of the island residents. Mrs Ratana, member of Parliament for Western Maori also spoke. Their Excellencies visited the hospital and tonight attended a dance and concert in the county hall. Tomorrow, weather permitting. they will visit Pitti Island.
