FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weak anti-cyclone is moving away to the east as a trough of low pressure in the Tasman Sea advances. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Winds mainly light on the coast, north-westerlies freshening inland; high cloud increasing, with rain in the alps; mild or warm temperatures. Outlook: southerlies, with showers. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate northwesterlies; partly cloudy and mild: showers developing from the west late this afternoon. Outlook: unsettled. Buller and Westland.—Moderate winds from the westerly quarter; rain developing from the south, partly clearing later; moderate temperatures. Outlook: scattered showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
