Obituary MR R. W. LOWRY
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 8. Mr Robert William Lowry, one of the best-known typographers in New Zealand, died in Auckland on Friday. He was aged 51. Mr Lowry founded the Pelorus Press after the war and developed a distinctive style of typography. In 1953 he founded the Pilgrim Press, with which he was associated until 1960. He went to Auckland University and completed an arts degree during war service. While stationed in New Caledonia he printed the forces' newspaper in the Pacific. Mr Lowry taught in primary schools for a time and was printing instructor at Seddon Memorial Technical College. With A. R. D. Fairbairn he published two of the few really comic books in NewZealand, “How To Ride A Bicycle” and “The Sky Is A Limpet.”
