New Lecturers
Three young lecturers, all completing doctorate of philosophy degrees, were appointed to the staff of the University of Canterbury yesterday by the council. Mr Adrian Cook, who took double first-class honours in the Cambridge history tripos for bachelor of arts two years ago, has been appointed lecturer in history. He entered St. Catherine’s College on an open exhibition in 1958 and holds State studentships from 1961 to 1964. In 1962-63 he was Rockefeller fellow of the British Association for American Studies to work at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. He is now completing research at Cambridge on United States policy and attitudes to Great Britain for his Ph.D. Mr W. B. Earl, who holds the degrees of bachelor of science and bachelor of engineering (chemical) with honours, has been appointed a lecturer in chemical engineering. He graduated m Canterbury and has been on the staff for two years as an assistant lecturer. He is completing bis Ph.D. Mr R F. McLean, who is a New Zealand master of arts with first-class honours in geography, will become a lecturer in geography. After a junior lectureship in Auckland, he joined the geography staff of McGill University in Canada and has been acting I
deputy-director of the Bellairs Research Institute. For a time he was an instructor in geography at the University of Oregon.
