Reid, a Melbourne pennant player and a veteran of 18 years’ tournament tennis, scored a five-set victory over the British Davis Cup player, R. Taylor, in the Victorian championships today. Reid finally outplayed Taylor, the No. 7 foreign seed, to win a 2J-hour match, 2-6. 3-6, 6-2. 6-3. 6-3. Another British player, M. J. Sangster, entered the third round with a 9-7, 4-6. 6-4, 6-4 win over P. McPherson (South Australia). The American Davis Cup players. R. D. Ralston, F. Froehling, and M. Riessen. had wins, although Ralston surprisingly dropped a set to the Queensland player. G. Baluch, in the second round. Riessen beat B. Geraghty. 6-4. 6-0. 6-0: Froehling beat P. Robertson. 6-3, 6-4. 6-0: and Ralston beat Baluch, 6-1, 6-3. 4-6. 6-3 A fourth American. E. Scott, was defeated in the first round by the South Australian lefthander. B. Phillips-Moore, 6-2, 6-4. 9-7.
