'Anxious To Get Madame Nhu'

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

SYDNEY, November 29.

Madame Nhu could return home at her own risk the Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, Mr Tran Van Lam, said today.

“The one regret of the Vietnamese people is that the tiger lady was not in Saigon at the time of the revolution.” he said. Mr Tran Van Lam was speaking at Sydney airport on his return from Saigon. He had been recalled from Canberra to report to his new revolutionary government

Mr Tran Van Lam said the Vietnamese people still were very anxious to get their hands on Madame Nhu for having influenced their late President Diem. "The infamous dragon lady, sister-in-law of the late President, now is in hiding with her daughter in Rome,” he said.

“Our new chief of secretariat officially has informed Madame Nhu that no action would be taken by the revolutionary government if she decided to return to Saigon. “Our new government would not like to get a reputation for revenging itself on a woman. “But, unfortunately, on such a matter the government cannot predict the actions of the people. “Madame Nhu can return home—but only at her own risk,” he said.. Mr Tran Van Lam said that “things were settling down” under the new revolutionary government in South Vietnam.”
