HONOUR ROLL AWARD
Rotary Selects Boys Eighteen primary school boys chosen for the honour roll award of the Rotary Club of Christchurch will attend a Rotary luncheon in the Jellicoe Hall on December 3 to receive their certificates. The boys’ headmasters will also attend the luncheon. Selection for this award is made on the basis of personality, scholarship, character, and leadership. The honour roll programme was introduced to the club by a member who saw it in action at the Rotary Club of Omaha. Nebraska. The Christchurch club’s youth committee approached the Christchurch Headmasters’ Association and explained the programme. With their approval it began in the 1959 school year. A team of Rotary club members toured participating schools during July and August and lectured on the value of character and citizenship. In October the headmaster of each school then selected a Form II boy as the honour roll boy. The 18 boys who will receive their certificates next month are:— J. C. Groote (Aranui), M. C. Earle (Bamford), G. Samson (Burwood), B. J. Williams (Heathcote), M. J. Hodges (Linwood Intermediate), T. C. Austin (Lyttelton Main), T. Chambers (Lyttelton West), S. J. Thorne (Mount Pleasant), L.
