The work is essentially the protection of New Zealand's interests internationally. These interests are growing and with them the range of the work. The department is expanding. The opportunities are expanding. This is the time for graduates to take up a professional career that offers wider scope and greater personal satisfaction than most other careers. THE APPOINTMENT: Diplomatic Trainees in the Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Branch to take up appointment in the New Year. TRAINING: After appointment an officer normally serves a two-year probationary period during which he will be given experience in the work of several divisions of the Department.
