Nathan On Film

W. J. Nathan, a dynamic figure in the All Blacks’ win over London Counties last Saturday is to become a film star. He has so captured the public ' imagination that a Cardiff news cinema has obtained from New Zealand films showing his matchwinning try for Auckland in the famous Ranfurly Shield match against Canterbury. Ashburton P.O. The Minister of Lands (Mr Gerardi will lay the foundation stone of the new Ashburton Post Office building on November 22 at 2 p.m. A canister behind the stone will contain a set of New Zealand coins, a set of stamps, a copy of the Post Office report for 1963. and a list of permanent officers of the Post Office. Newspaper articles about the ceremony will be put into the canister before it is sealed. Fishing Rivers Two fishing rivers in the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society’s district, the Selwyti and Ashley, were reported to be clear and fishable at 9 a.m. yesterday. The Waiau and Waimakariri rivers were dirty, the Hurunui very dirty, and the Rakaia slightly discoloured. 100th Whale The Tory Channel whalers have reached the century mark for the season. When the steam catcher Orca returned to the factory from sea yesterday she brought with her the 100th whale. The 99th was captured earlier yesterday.—(P.A.) Under Fire The Melbourne-Adelaide express train reached Adelaide today with the windows of three carriages shattered by bullets. Four bullets struck the train near Bacchus Marsh, about 30 miles from Melbourne, about 9.30 last night. The bullets penetrated only the exterior panes of the double windows. Passengers in the three carriages were shaken by the incident. —(Melbourne, November 14.)
