BURNED BY PETROL
Farmer Tried To Stop Fire (JV.Z. Pres, Association) PALMERSTON N- Nov. 14. A Linton farmer was rushed to the Palmerston North Hospital today after receiving petrol bums while trying to stop a fire from burning its way into a 500 gallon petrol tank. He is Derek Chalmers, aged 27, of Te Puna road. His condition was described as satisfactory by a hospital spokesman. Mr Chalmers was filling his tractor about 9.40 a.m., when it caught fire. The blaze started spreading up the hose towards the pump. The hose flicked away from him as he cut it, spraying petrol over him as it went, and this caught fire.
