WESTPORT SPORTS
Good Fields In Most Events The weekly sports meeing held by the Westport Amateur and Cycling Club on Wednesday evening was easily the best tnis season. good fields competing in most events, and with quiate a large number of spectators. At only his second appearance for the season, the club junior champion field events exponent, C. Werren, was impressive in winning the junior shot put with a throw of 43ft sin—only Ift sin outside his own club record. Equally impressive were the two cycling wins of the young all-rounder. S. O’Brien, who rode two well-judged races to take both the two-lap and the two-mile events. In the latter event O'Brien showed great determination to head G. Winton in the last 100 yards. The senior 660 yards went to the club champion. G. Morris, whose time of Imin 25.3 sec, was quite satisfactory. The senior 75 yards sprint went to P. Scanlon, and the corresponding junior event to P. Hawes, who ran the distance in 83sec. G. Kerr showed he is rapidly regaining the form he had at the start of last season when he won the junior 660 yards in Imin 33sec. and, like Morris, he won as he liked. I. Collins was a dual winner in the intermediate boys’ section, having good wins in the 75 yards and the shot put. The 220 yards race in this section went to J. Jones, who shows improvement at each meeting. O. Beveridge recorded a good win in the intermediate girls’ long jump., her best effort being 14ft 2jin. From a handicap of 18in this was sufficient to place her well clear of K. Croawell. who jumped 14ft 7Jin.
