Starts December 18. From 20th Century Fox (A) TENDERS INDIGENOUS MILLING TIMBER FOR SALEWESTLAND CONSERVANCY 1. The Conservator of Forests. Hokitika. invites written tenders for the purchase of an annual supply of timber for 20 years from State Forest 34 and/or other State Forests in the locality. 2. The timber under offer is an annual supply of 320,000 cubic feet of podocarp species and a sufficient quantity of red and silver beech to give an annual sawn output of approximately 1,000,000 bd. fl. Immediately beech species will be sold at a price per 100 bd. ft sawn output, but the Conservator reserves the right in future sales to sell beech species on a cubic foot basis. 3. Unless the purchaser so desires, nothofagus truncata (Hard beech) will not be included in the sale meantime, but at any time during the sale the Conservator may negotiate to include this species as part of the total volume of beech offered. 4. Initially the timber will come from Sawmill Area 802 which is situated in Blocks XI and XV, Waiwhero Survey District, and is estimated to contain some 303,000 cu. ft of podocarps and 391.000 board feet of beech with approximatley 95 per cent of the podocarp volume being in Rimu and Miro. Upse-t prices are:— Rimu/Miro, 8.5 d per cu. ft. Totara, 12.9 d per cu. ft. Kahikatea, 11.3 d per cu. ft. Red Beech, 3/6d per 100 bd. ft. Silver Beech, 3/- per 100 bd. ft. Hard Beech, 2/6d per 100 bd. ft. 5. Tenderers must state the price per cubic foot that they are prepared to pay for each of the podocarp species (which will be logscaled) and the price per 100 ft board measure that they are prepared to pay for each of the Nothofagus (beech) species in this sawmill area. The accepted tendered price will be taken into account in valuing subsequent areas. 6. Tenders must be in sealed envelopes addressed to the Conservator of Forests, Hokitika, and marked “TENDER FOR S.A. 802 ” Each tender must be accompanied by a marked cheque for £250, plus £2 licence fee. Before cutting commences the successful tenderer will be required to deposit a further £2500 with the Conservator as security against default in making payment or against default in observing any of the terms and conditions of sale. 7. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. 8. Upon completion of cutting in S.A. 802 further quantities ot timber will be sold at Forest Service valuation. Revaluation of timber supplied will be made at intervals of not more than two years. 9. The Forest Service will form a road to a point near the confluence of Moonlight, McCarthy’s and Granite Creeks which is approximately three miles nor’h of the point where the Blackball-! kam a tua road crosses Moonlight Creek. The successful tenderer will be required to maintain this road Except for this formation he will also be required to form and maintain any roading that may be necessary to work S.A. 802 and all further timber supplied. 10. These cutting rights are being offered with the object of attracting industry to Westland. The successful tenderer must therefore undertake to operate in Westland such plant as may be necessary to process and re-manufacture a high percentage of the rough sawn timber produced from all species. Tenderers must therefore submit full particulars of their proposals which will be taken into account when tenders are being considered as will their proposals for efficient primary conversion of log supplies. A condition of the sale as a continuing one is; that such proposals are imp’emented. 11. The sale is subject to the usual terms and conditions —a copy of which may be obtained upon application to the Conservator. 12.
