House Came Too
The Ministry of Works construction township of Otematata is about three miles below the Benmore dam, and has a population of 4300. They are the work force of 1400 men, their families, and the people who supply them, teach them, nurse them and entertain them.' Their houses, attractively arranged to form a completely planned town, came from the Roxburgh hydro site. As the Otematata population grew, more houses arrived, and the last of 600 came last week. It had been occupied at Roxburgh by Jack Bergin, who has been on the Benmore project for some time. Stereotyped though the little houses are, he recognised it at once when he returned to his house in River terrace on Friday and saw the newcomer in place on the section directly opposite.
