BEST BEEF ANIMAL
Hereford Wins Cup This year's champion Hereford bull, exhibited by D. W. Morrow, of Ashburton, ocmptetd a notable double by wining the Meat and Wool Cup, awarded for the best beef animal. For the judging of the cup all the beef-breeds judges form a panel and select the animals to order of their preference. The winner is the animal with the most points Thus year’s judging panel comprised the Shorthorn judge (Mr N O. Mofflait. of Balchitha); the Hereford judge (Mr J. E. Thacker, of Oketo's Bay); Mr M. M. Marshall, of Takapau, who judged the Aberdeen Angus section; and Mt J. F. Cooper, of Blenheim, who judged the Galloways. Seven animals took panttwo Shorthorns, two Herefords. two Galloways, and one Aberdeen Angus. The judges thought the standard of the cup entries was very high, amd Mr Morrow's two-year-old bull was. in the opinion of one of the judges, the best Hereford he had ever judged ait the show to the three times he has taken part ait Christchurch. The bull was Okawa Leskan 10th.
The runner-up to the cup this year was R E. amd R G. Allan's Topsy of Heathfield, a previous winner of the cup. It is believed this is the first time for some years that a Hereford has won this cup.
