INTER-CHURCH MEETING
Two Candidates Give Support A proposed inter-church election meeting in Ashburton, which was to have been held by the Ashburton Ministers’ Association, has been cancelled. The association could only enlist the support of two of the three candidates. "Before the last General Election, St Stephen’s Anglican Church invited sister churches of Ashburton to join in an election meeting at which the candidates of the electorate would be present to answer questions.’’ says a statement from the secretary of the association (the Rev. C. S. Honrill) yesterday. The meeting, which the candidates said was the largest they Lad encountered m their respective campaigns was an informative one as it enabled those present to see and hear the candidates together, he said. At a meeting of the association held in October a resolution was passed to the effect that the association endeavour to arrange a similar meeting before this year's General Election, Mr Horrill said. The date decided was Sunday November 17, at 8.30 pan. A sub-committee was appointed to prepare questions of interest to the member ((lurches, the questions to be submitted to the candidates before the proposed meeting At the next meeting of the association however, the election meeting had to be cancelled because the association had been able to enlist the support of two candidates only.
