Transfer Of Overdraft

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Nov. 14. After having conducted business with the National Bank since 1897. the Greymouth borough decided at a special meeting this week to change to the Australia and New Zealand Bank. Four councillors were absent from the meeting and only one voted against the transfer. Giving reasons for the change, the Mayor of Greymouth (Mr F. W. Baillie) said it was mainly because of the ’‘harmful publicity given to the borough council and the West Coast generally, which we felt wasn’t warranted in the circumstances." “It was also due to the stipulation that the general account must be in credit by 1965," said Mr Baillie. “Although every endeavour, naturally, will be made to have this done, we feel that the National Bank has imposed a stipulation which at the present time may be difficult to fulfil without too severe restriction on the maintenance of the essential services of the borough."
