TROTTING MIGHTY HANOVER IN TOP FORM

Fine Dominion Handicap Prospect Ihe Addington trainer, R. Young, should win the Dominion Handicap for the second time in the last three years at Addington tomorrow. He will be represented by Mighty Hanover and Our Jimmy, with Mighty Hanover making more appeal of the two after a determined run to beat Control narrowly in the Worthy Queen Handicap on Tuesday.

Young trained and drove Au Fait to win the race in the record time of 4.15 4-5 in 1961, and he also drove Acclamation to win the race in 1949.

Mighty Hanover, a lightly-raced gelding by Lucky Hanover from Betty Maxegin, will be making his third attempt to win the big Addington race. He took no part in last year’s contest, and he was the beaten win favourite the year earlier.

Mighty Hanover has never trotted better than on Tuesday. when he out-finished Control in a keen finish. That was his first start since May and he should be a fitter horse tomorrow. Mighty Hanover showed outstanding staying form earlier in his career and has a record of 4min 18 3-ssec for two miles at Addington. He looks favourably placed on the front and he should be the hardest to beat. Our Jimmy might find the distance a little far if the pace is strong. However, he, too, looks well and trotted a sound race for fifth on Tuesday after forcing all the pace. FTaming Way finished boldly for his sixth in the Worthy Queen Handicap, recording a sound trial for tomorrow's race. He will appreciate the longer distance and should be capable of taking a prominent part in the finish. He is raced and trained by J. Wilson, of Ashburton, who produced his own horse. Dictation, to win the race in 1950 in the then

record time of 4min 16 2-ssec. Pohutukawa has never impressed as a sprinter, but he was close to the leaders until the straight in Tuesday’s Worthy Queen Handicap. He could not secure a run and was not knocked about in the straight. Pohutukawa has recorded some outstanding staying performances and if he races up to his best, he will be one of the brighter prospects. Our Own trotted her best race for the season when she made ground for fourth in the Worthy Queen Handicap. She should be even better tomorrow and might improve on her third in the same race 12 months ago. Back-marker Moon Boy, one of the outstanding trotters in commission, recorded a pleasing effort when he finished eighth on Tuesday. He could be returning to his best and from 36 yards he cannot be left out of calculations. Resistor and Queen’s Cord

are two speedy trotters engaged on the front, but they are not often very reliable. They should be held quite safely by Control, Min Scott, and Wairau King, all of which are on 12 yards. Min Scott in particular looks to be a sound prospect The Dominion Handicap is the first leg of the double, the order of the races having been altered so that the Hornby Handicap will be the second leg. Lyndhurst will be a strong fancy in the Hornby Handicap after his stylish win in weaker company on Tuesday. He coasted along in the lead and without apparent effort he won with a lot in hand. He is one of the most promising young pacers in commission- and has won at four of has last five starts. Trade Fair finished a splendid third to Safe Return and Chiffon on Tuesday after failing to secure a clear run in the straight. He is very fit at present and should be one of the hardest for Lyndhurst to beat. Lakeda was a dominating favourite for the Spring Handicap. but marred her chances when she broke at the start. She is too good to discard after one such failure and it will not surprise if she gives a good account of rerself. Marquess, a close fifth on Tuesday, will form a strong bracket with Great Credit and Stormiight. All three will have prospects. Inglemead, Van Rush, and Garrison Royal appeal most of the others on the front, while Safe Return and Avante should do best of the others on 12 yards. Some unsettled weather is forecast, but unless there is heavy rain the track will be in good order.
