CENTENARY OF CHURCH
A target of £5OOO is aimed at by the members of the Trinity Congregational Church for reconstruction and renovation of the church at the corner of Manchester and Worcester streets, which will mark its centenary next year. The section where the church now stands was bought for £5OO from Lord Lyttelton. On February 3, 1864, 45 men and women constituted themselves the Congregational Church, and the first place of worship was a stone Sunday school hall. Eight years later a larger church, costing £5OOO, was built.
Among the work to be done are a new heating system, improved lighting, work on drains and masonry, a storeroom and workshop, and a minister’s counselling room and foyer.
