SMALL PIG ENTRY
Large Whites Praised Disappointment at the small number of entries was expressed by Mr N. Meyers, of Mauriceville, who judged all the classes in the pig section yesterday. Numbers were on a par with a small country show, he said. The exhibits, however, were generally of good quality. The Berkshires were disappointing in both number of entries and quality, and there was consequently little competition. said Mr Meyers. The Tamworth section was of a good standard, and pigs shown were representative of those seen in the country today. he said. Mr Meyers considered the Large Whites well up to the standard achieved in most big New Zealand shows. With the high standard and entries competition was very keen in this section. The New Zealand Pig Breeders' Association Cup for the best Large White sow was won by H- J. Hurford and Son. The mature sow that won its class in the Landrace section was outstanding, and the best he judged, Mr Meyers said. The commercial classes were disappointing in numbers, but the porkers were of first-class quality, said Mr Meyers.
